Disrupting The Waste Management Industry In Mexico

On an otherwise reasonable evening, more than 1,000 people packed an auditorium in Boulder, Colorado, for the culmination of the 2011 Unreasonable Institute. They came to see 27 ventures  present their solutions to some of the world’s greatest challenges.

Luis Duarte, Co-Founder of YoReciclo, shares how his venture is generating revenue while tackling the big problem that only 3.3% of all waste in Mexico is recycled.

YoReciclo designs and implements recycling solutions for any institution. YoReciclo educates, trains, collects and turns recycling materials into raw materials so they can then sell the gathered material. By doing this, they create jobs, generate revenue and monitor environmental impact per customer.

There is a need for a recycling infrastructure in every country, especially in a disposable culture like today. My question is what do the people that buy the waste do with it? Is it put to good use? Why do they need to sell the waste? Why can’t they repurpose it and sell the products??
