I like fixing things that are broken

Cameron Goldie-Scot: Cameron has five years of micro-finance, mobile money and East Africa experience. As CEO of Musoni Services, he is responsible for the development of the Musoni System (a low-cost, best-practice microfinance platform), managing the relationships with Musoni’s existing microfinance partners and expanding the company’s services into new markets. Previously Cameron worked as the COO of Musoni BV and before that managed the set up of Musoni’s operations on the ground in Kenya. Armed with the comprehensive skills learned in getting Musoni off the ground, Cameron is working to redefine microfinance. Before Musoni, Cameron worked as an independent consultant in East Africa, advising and running projects with multiple microfinance institutions on how to best enable their clients to partner with mobile operators.

Usoni means looking forward or future in Swahili & M stands for mobile

Musoni: Musoni is a social enterprise that establishes best-practice microfinance institutions and uses technology to lower costs, reduce risk, and improve efficiency. In 2009, Musoni set up the first cashless Microfinance Institution (MFI) in the world, using mobile payments for all transactions. Since then, Musoni has disbursed over 10,000 loans to Kenyan micro entrepreneurs. In 2011, Musoni loaned more than $2m and won the award for ‘Most Innovative Use of Technology’ at the 2011 Global Micro-finance Achievement Awards. The company now supports microfinance institutions across East Africa with its innovative, cloud based platform while also looking to replicate the success of Musoni Kenya in neighbouring Uganda.

Access to financial services is not the one solution to world poverty, but it is a very important part. Together with a variety of solutions it can play a major role in helping people to improve their lives.
